The Story of Nya

I developed Nya’s character
for a wonderful storytelling site called Alhambra, sponsored by two
very talented writers, a husband and wife team. They envisioned the
Alhambra loop somewhat as a Role Playing Game, only the emphasis was
on storytelling versus a game. While the site has not been active
for awhile, I kept the excerpts I posted about Nya. Her character
intrigued me to the point I thought one day I might revisit her,
retool the proprietary aspects of the story and give her a story all
her own. However, in the interim, I’d like to give her to my readers
as she was presented on the story loop. These are draft posts, so
they may lack a little polish, but I hope you’ll enjoy them just the
same.
There is an Arthurian mythology underlying many
of the characters. As they developed, many of them embraced their
former incarnations as members of Arthur’s roundtable, only with the
peculiar quirks of their present day forms.
The setting for the story is Port Hope, Maine in
contemporary times. It is home to mortals, mages, fey, vampires in
this alternate history shared universe. The Alhambra, one of the
main attractions of Port Hope, is an adult-only resort owned by
Namir, a vampire from the Baghdad of the Arabian Nights, who employs
exotic weres and vampires as his staff and security detail, among
others.
There are fanatical factions that oppose the
existence of supernatural creatures. Nya has been recruited as a
child to serve as an assassin for one of these factions, and she is
charged with the assassination of Namir. These excerpts focus on the
events surrounding her mission. I hope you enjoy them!

by me (except where co-authors are indicated), the setting of Nya’s
story is proprietary to the husband and wife who created them, as
are the characters of Namir and Maeve. Many of the other characters
with whom she interacts are also proprietary to the authors who
created them.
There is one more excerpt about Nya. It skips
forward in time. Namir decided to accept Nya into Alhambra and
assigned a vampire named Michael to her care and protection. He is
charged by Namir to break down the conditioning the fanatical
faction imposed on her to heal her. In this post, he asked Carlos,
one of the Alhambra weres, to take her to the local bookshop, run by
an intriguing individual known as Koreander, to teach her a lesson
in relaxing, enjoying leisure pleasures. Koreander’s character was
created by a gifted writer on the loop, and this post was co-written
by him.
