I absolutely loved this book. Ms. Hill has written another scorcher. The characters are complex and at the same time basic in their needs and desires. The suspense in this book grabs you and does not let you go until the final page. An awesome book I could not put down!

I’m usually not a big fan of the paranormal genre, but Ms. Hill has changed my mind with If Wishes Were Horses. This is the best book I’ve read in a long time and it has everything. The plot is suspenseful and completely original. This is a murder mystery in addition to an erotic romance, and you will be on the edge of your seat the entire time. I literally could not put this book down. You will also get a look into a spirituality that many of us are not familiar with. The characters are complex and interesting. Neither is perfect, which is exactly the type of character I like to read about. Sarah is a strong, feisty woman who finds herself completely overwhelmed by both the details of the murder and the feelings she has for Justin. Justin is a man who knows how to seduce a woman’s mind as well as her body. Their attraction towards each other is immediate and intense and fuels some of the hottest scenes I’ve read. There is nothing overly kinky in these sex scenes. The eroticism comes as much from the sexy dialogue as it does from the actual sex.

This book is so well written that I completely lost myself in it. I found myself rereading several parts just because they were so clever. I’m a hopeless romantic but I also love hot sex scenes. This book had everything I love plus some things I didn’t even know I loved. It’s for all these reasons that I feel If Wishes Were Horses deserves the Gold Star Award. Absolutely brilliant!

If Wishes Were Horses is a phenomenal book by an outstanding author. Justin is a dynamic, compelling character, insightful and sensitive, and yet also commanding and extremely sexual. He is extraordinarily attracted to Sarah physically, but even more importantly, he feels a spiritual and mental connection with her that only grows stronger as he learns more about her. Sarah is also a complex character. As a police officer and sheriff, she is a strong leader, a woman who carries enormous responsibility on her slender shoulders. However, she also hides a vulnerable side from the world. A recent divorce has made her question her own worth as a woman; though she knows she is no cold fish, neither does she feel truly sensual and sexually-confident. Justin, however, does sense the passionate undercurrents beneath her composed façade. He’s not going to allow her to repress her nature any longer.

All of this occurs against a backdrop of a murder mystery that Sarah must solve. Is this a human crime, or are otherworldly elements involved? Written in Ms. Hill’s fluid, lyrical style, the paranormal and romantic elements combine to create a cohesive, powerful whole. I grabbed this novel, blurb unread, on the basis of Ms. Hill’s name alone, and I am so glad I did. In a previous review, I commended the author for her skill in creating evocative scenes and multifaceted characters. Happily, I can offer the same praise for this book. Featuring a hero I fell in love with from the start and several hot love scenes, If Wishes Were Horses is one of the most powerful romantica novels I’ve read this year and most worthy of the Gold Star Award. Treat yourself to an early holiday gift, and pick this novel up today!

IF WISHES WERE HORSES is an awesome book. One of the best I have ever read. The characters are so intense together, they practically combust. Their lovemaking is both erotically sensuous and exquisitely sweet. I found myself re-reading several scenes, unable to keep the tears from forming, as they were so emotionally moving and well written; the love and passion so real you are swept away by the tidal wave of emotions. Justin is extremely alpha-male, but also sensitive and caring. He struggles with both the urge for primitive mating and the need to protect, shelter and love. Sarah is strong and independent, yet unsure of herself as a woman. The feelings Justin invokes are intense and frighten her, but call to the inner woman inside that only he can reach. She detests feeling out of control, but is helpless against his magnetic pull and the lure of more passion and bliss that she has ever known.

The murder mystery element in the story is original and suspenseful. You will be on the edge of your seat anticipating each clue revealed as the story unfolds, which only enhances a superb romance into one of the most powerful pieces of erotic romantica I have ever had the pleasure of reading and well deserving a 5 star rating, which is our highest award. If our rating scale went any higher, I would proudly award it, as I feel this story to be that worthy.

Ms. Hill’s IF WISHES WERE HORSES is an erotic paranormal suspense novel no one should miss. This was my first book by the extremely talented Joey W. Hill, but you can bet it won’t be my last. I anxiously look forward to more novels such as this from Ms. Hill in the future.

Like all of Joey Hill's books, this story is told in flowing, graceful prose which manages to be poetic and erotic at the same time. She has once again created characters so painfully three-dimensional that you ache for them and with them; real, flawed people who must struggle past old pain and fear to find the center of the circle which is Life. Imbued with a rich understanding of the meaning of Wicca, Hill spins a tale which is eerily suspenseful and deeply spiritual at the same time, and which never turns down the sexual heat, even for a moment. This is a book you'll want to savor and reread, finding something new each time. Once upon a time, ebooks used to be uneven and often mediocre at best, but writers like Ms. Hill have proved that they can compete with the best print erotica. In fact, the only print novels which begin to compare with Hill's body of work are Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books, and they are very different in tone and feel, though both feature lyrical prose, rich characterization, and a sense of the sacred one seldom sees in erotica. This is a keeper.

IF WISHES WERE HORSES is an unusual love story, with paranormal elements added to the mix. Justin is a very unique hero, comfortable in his sexuality and in the forces of nature. As a Wiccan priest, Justin exudes a spirituality little seen in modern novels. His love for Sarah is never in doubt; it's her fear that is the stumbling block to their continued relationship. Ms. Hill is known for writing compelling stories with an erotic edge, which she has delivered with this book.

IF WISHES WERE HORSES is erotic and sensual with a hint of danger. There are forces at work in the small town, dark forces that only Justin believes in.

And if he doesn't convince Sarah, and soon, everything will be lost. Justin is a complex man full of depth and emotion and a fierce protector. Sarah suffered a failed marriage and a near death experience. Together they are an explosive combination. The sex is hard, sweaty and heartfelt, making it's E-rotic rating appropriate.

Joey W. Hill combines the right amount of emotion and intense hunger, making IF WISHES WERE HORSES a very delightful read. I enjoyed reading about Tantra sex and found it amusing and exciting that with just a whisper of a touch and a few words, Justin could bring Sarah to an explosive climax without making love to her. I wouldn't mind a Justin of my own. <g>

This story is full of mystery, romance and hot sex! It’s a tale of love lost and life mates found. Joey W. Hill has a way to make to make you feel what the characters feel and the mystery just pulls you right in. Sarah is unsure of herself, sexually; and Justin is more than happy to reveal to her just how sexy and passionate she is. A cold shower is in order when you reach the end of this page-turner!

Joey W. Hill elicits emotions from deep inside the reader and slowly pulls them out until the overwhelming needs of lust and love are extracted in a powerful, crashing wave of pleasure and ecstasy. The story and writing are so fluid and heartfelt that it takes the reader in and becomes one with them. The sexual tension and mind-blowing, wet-your-panties, I-need-some-ice-to-cool-down sex scenes left this reader needing to find her man and partake in the pleasures Ms. Hill describes in such vibrant detail. If you are looking for romance, mystery and tantalizing sex, Ms. Hill gives it to you in full force with If Wishes Were Horses. It is this reviewer’s opinion that you should run to Ellora’s Cave and grab yourself this HOT read. Ms. Hill aims to please and she does with this scorching tale. You will NOT be disappointed!

If Wishes Were Horses is a wild sensual ride; filled with sex, murder investigations, sex, a demon, and even more sex. Sarah is a strong warrior of a woman, worthy of her position, yet she also has womanly needs, like the feel of love and protection offered by a mate. Justin is a true alpha male; he is constantly in control of every aspect of his life and is instantly possessive and protective of Sarah. In order to keep her he will fight anyone and anything, including her! Did I mention that this story has sex in it? Lots and lots of hot, passionate sex! Oh my, these two lovers start off on the right side of the bed and it just gets better every time. If you enjoy contemporary erotic romance with a touch of the paranormal, If Wishes Were Horses is most definitely going to be a “keeper” for you.
