OMG! This has to be the best vampire novel I've read in a very long time! Joey Hill has outdone herself in descriptions and plot. This is not a small book (464 pages) and I read it in a day and a half (don't tell my boss!), couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. If we had a star system, I'd give it 6 out of 5....and, on a hot scale a 10 out of 5. Definitely.

Lock the door, turn off the television and hide the phone before starting this book, because it’s impossible to put down! It’s set in the same world as A Vampire’s Claim and The Mark of the Vampire Queen, but newcomers will have no trouble understanding past events. The story is full of action, intrigue, danger, history and sexual tension, and it’s peppered with steamy sexual encounters between Mason the vampire and Jessica, his third-marked servant, that are worth waiting for. The happy ending will please any romance fan, and the sex scenes are sure to satisfy. This is definitely a keeper!

A powerful storyline that defies every cliché of the genre, BELOVED VAMPIRE boldly goes where no other book has gone before. The primary focus is on Mason and Jessica, but for those who have been keeping up with Ms. Hill’s series, THE VAMPIRE QUEEN’S SERVANT, THE MARK OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN AND A VAMPIRE’S CLAIM, you’ll get an update on some of the secondary characters. For those who think that those in a BDSM relationship can’t experience deep emotion, Ms. Hill will prove them wrong. Despite despair and hurt and plenty of baggage, Mason and Jessica feel something for each other, even if they aren’t quite ready to admit it. The reader will already see that Mason is capable of garnering the tortured Jessica’s trust, but she’s not quite there yet. Still, is Mason truly capable of loving again? Can Jessica believe in Mason? Go out today to get this incredible love story to find out. I guarantee that once you pick this book up, it will be difficult to put down until you’re completely finished; even then, you’ll keep thinking about it.

Excuse me while I gush like a fangirl.

I was so afraid that Beloved Vampire, while starting out with a bang, would eventually fade into mediocrity like so many books. Not at all. As the book progressed, it just got better and better, until it is now officially one of my favorite (if not the favorite) vampire romances. I am so glad I decided to break my paranormal ban and read this book. Mason and Jessica are the most well-written, psychologically coherent characters I've read in a long time.

These vampires are seriously old school. Vampires are so overdone these days, but the author has managed to maintain their mysterious, sensual nature without making them caricatures of themselves. They don't sit around posing, baring their fangs, running around and flaunting their need to suck blood. They are wise, but through thousands of years of existence.

This book is natural. It is the highest compliment I can give to a book. It is naturally flowing - the plot, the emotional progression, the dialogue. Read Beloved Vampire, even if you think you're sick to death of vampires. You won't regret it. The story is so sensual, so romantic. I'm envious of the fact that I'll never get that first-time excitement again.

With respect to the Favorite Book of 2009 Award: "It broke my paranormal slump with its amazing character depth and dialogue. I could also find no fault with the direction of the plot, which practically never happens!"

Joey W. Hill captivates me with this tale. Imagination, acts of courage that will astound even those who are used to reading about the paranormal, and a love story that is timeless in so many ways will keep the reader turning the pages in fascination. Eroticism flavored with bondage, domination and menage relations is not for the faint of heart.

Unique twists to this book make it stand out from other paranormal romances. The story itself is one that builds the characters in our mind through many faceted looks at each through the eyes of the two main players and others they interact with. A truly different world is constructed that looks at vampires and other paranormal beings as an organized entity with a ruling counsel. For those who look for a unique book filled with a story told with expertise, romance and suspense, this is a winner. It's one of the best paranormal erotic tales I've read in a long time.

The fourth book in Ms. Hill’s widely popular erotic vampire series is not one to disappoint. The sinful eroticism of her work provides a sensual delight of romantic interludes that leave a lasting impression with the reader. Depth of character development and a focus on the relationship of the hero and heroine are at the forefront of this story as the two face the changes in their lives that their sizzling attraction and love for each other brings to the deliciousness of the tale.

I found myself straining to put this book down. From cover to cover, the erotic love story captivated me and forced me to run the gamut of emotions from laughing to crying and everything in between. Joey W. Hill has taken the erotic paranormal genre to the peak with this character driven tale of a woman’s rebirth after finding the love of her life. I have no other option than to give this book the highest rating I can and deliver the message that the reader who misses out on this brilliant romance will truly be missing out on one of the best.

Ms. Hill dishes up another delightful exotic romance in Beloved Vampire. A loose continuation of the Vampire Queen series the story focuses on Mason, referred to in several of the other stories. Mason is a recluse who, while being forced into vampire politics, is not interested really in rejoining life. He has his projects and enjoys his life as it is. He is smart, very alpha and full of messy emotions. Just the way I like my men. Jessica was committed to dying and is hell-bent on getting away from Mason and everything vampire. While Mason understands her fear after being forced to be a vampire servant, he won’t let her die. As they emotionally tangle I was riveted. I loved reading as Jessica blossomed with Mason. Her intelligence, quick wit and inner beauty lead to a character that makes you want to be their friend. As she finds her spirit again I enjoyed her challenges to Mason. This in turn pushes Mason into an emotional turmoil. Their ferocious passion had me gasping. The pain of Jessica’s life brought tears to my eyes, the pain Mason faced in losing Farida, and the love that springs between the two of them made me hold my breath, turning each page looking to see where Ms. Hill would lead them. When they come together the sex is atomic. It is dark, but while her memories of her first Master are disturbing and not for those who have suffered abuse, you never sense that Mason and Jessica don’t find love. I enjoyed the slow pace of the book which allowed you to feel the world of the characters. You are able to feel through the writing as if you are there in person - the grit of the sand in the desert, smell the flowers in South America, and the raw energy of the dance floor in the BDSM club. When you add in nasty vampires, vampire politics, and Lady Lyssa at her most protective you also get a suspense that had me turning the pages, throwing the book across the room and desperate to finish it in one sitting. Only one sitting was not enough. This book is meant to be enjoyed over and over. The sharp dialog, beautifully written characters, emotional growth of Jessica and Mason, and the edge of suspense tied with highly erotic BDSM romance makes Beloved Vampire worthy of a Gold Star Award.

Beloved Vampire is spectacular is all its raw glory. I loved Vampire’s Claim and hoped that Beloved Vampire would be just as good, and Joey W. Hill did not disappoint. To tell you the truth, for me, Beloved Vampire was even better. It starts with such heartbreak and loss. Jessica is so strong and she doesn’t even know it. Mason is just as lost as Jessica. They need each other to become whole again. The passion and sensuality are all there in Beloved Vampire but it is so much more. It is really about the strength of character to survive hell.

Ms. Hill weaves the world of BDSM into the mastery of vampire life so effortlessly, it’s like they were fated to be together. It is nice to see such a domineering character’s love for his submissive. Beloved Vampire shows the beauty of a true D/s relationship in a way I would like to see more of in stories.

The beauty of Jessica and Mason in Beloved Vampire is just cause to Joyfully Recommend that everyone read this tale of life, love and overcoming one of the biggest obstacles, yourself.

RomCon Judge Comments about Beloved Vampire (BV was a finalist in the RomCon Crown 2010)

I was pretty happy I saved the best for last without even knowing it. Joey W. Hill’s, Beloved Vampire (book 4 of the Vampire Queen series) hit pretty much every arc I could have asked for in a romance novel.

This book has themes of BDSM, a genre I have become familiar with through authors like Maya Banks, and Elliot Mabeuse, and one I find extremely fun to read—especially when it involves a vampire dom! And I think that’s what I liked about this book when it comes down to it. If you’ve ever read a vampire romance novel, you know that a vampire’s most prominent traits—besides thirsting for its life sustaining blood—is their dominance, sexuality and possessiveness. These are the three themes I see as most common as well in the ‘human’ D/s books I’ve read.

And let me tell you, Mason makes one hell of a Dom, and does it in a way that doesn’t just show his power over Jessica, but takes care of her, showing a two-way street of equal parts dominance and compassion.

I’ll be honest; parts of this book, when Jess recalls her physical, sexual and mental torture—and torture is putting what she went through mildly—were hard to read. But they definitely did their job in forming a picture, as the reader, of what the heroine went through before her chance encounter with Mason, making me feel for her, and root for her eventual HEA even more.

I absolutely loved Beloved Vampire, and have every intention of starting from book 1 very soon. I found Hill’s paranormal world original and captivating, and one I’m eager to explore more.

Oh…and I have four final words. Foreplay with a banana.

Need I say more?

The story is beautifully drawn and wonderfully paced. The tension between Jessica and Mason, sexual and otherwise, just keeps building. Everything and every action are driven by Hill's well-written characters. And the story sticks to the romance -- no unnecessary contrivances, mysteries or secondary characters hogging or gumming up the works.

It's just one hot, great, satisfying read about an all-consuming passion romance lovers hope for once in their real lives, too. It also stands on its own so you can start with this book and then move into the others.

I found this novel to be very intense and very multi-layered.  This is not a light read; this is a novel to pick up when you have some time. There are some situations that some readers might find objectionable, such as, but not limited to BDSM, torture and things that allude to many past horrors.  I highly recommend taking the time to really read Beloved Vampire. I think you will fall in love with the characters as much as I have. This is the fourth in the Vampire Queen series, but can be read alone and enjoyed. I highly recommend reading the entire series, though, it really should not be missed. If you love your romance to be angst-ridden and extremely emotionally charged you really need to pick up Beloved Vampire by Joey W. Hill, you will not be disappointed.
