Joey W. Hill has presented a feast in her Nature
of Desire series. I've only had the pleasure of reading
Natural Law, but it was more than enough to have me wanting
more. And, as I expected, she didn't disappoint me with
Mistress of Redemption. Ms. Hill creates another delicious
read. However, I do have to warn you, there is a very detailed trip
into Hell, along with some scenes of BDSM and punishment for past
sins that are not for those with a faint heart. But, if your
Pacemaker is working well and you've got someone to call 911 if you
need it, crack open this book and see where it takes you.

Joey W. Hill’s Mistress of Redemption is full of
imagery that will fascinate readers right from the start. I went
into this book fully prepared to hate Jonathan and was stunned by
how quickly I realized that he’s not truly a ‘bad guy,’ he’s just
misguided. Dona, I loved right from the beginning. She exudes an air
of self-confidence and you just know that Jonathan’s not going to
get away with any of his mind games with her. There’s an air of
mystery about her that makes you wonder exactly what her story is
and then suck in a breath of wonder when her past is finally
revealed. Ms. Hill’s whole Nature Of Desire series has
had a profound effect on my life and left me with a new outlook on
life and the people around me. Mistress of Redemption
can be read as a stand alone, but to fully understand why Jonathan
is so hated you really need to read Holding The Cards
and Natural Law.
SNIPPET –
If you’ve read Holding The Cards and Natural Law
then you’ll easily remember Jonathan Powell. He’s the bad guy we
loved to hate and haven’t been able to forget. He’s back with a
story of his own so get ready for a journey into his psyche and what
it takes to redeem him. Is he worth it? Dona thinks so!

Ms. Hill proves – again – that she is a brilliant storyteller.
This is the fifth book in the Nature of Desire series.
Mistress of Redemption features Jonathan, as fans may
remember from Natural Law, also mentioned in
Holding the Cards. As such, Jonathan will likely not be the
most favored or revered hero. Similarly, Dona’s past may not
completely endear her to readers. Still, Jonathan and Dona’s story
is definitely worth reading, and many may find – as I did – that not
only do their mistakes and faults greatly humanize their characters,
but they also emphasize their amazing progress, as well as their
redeeming qualities. This story seems to exemplify the healing power
of love – for others and self.
Not only is Ms. Hill an artist with words, but she also continues
to display a true talent for showcasing phenomenal character
development. It often feels as though she’s able to see into the
souls of her characters, and is additionally capable of revealing
some of that depth to readers. In keeping with the Nature of
Desire series, Mistress of Redemption involves
some fairly intense BDSM material and is quite emotionally moving,
managing to be both heartbreaking and heartwarming. At the same
time, a few surprising twists slightly alter the feel of this tale
in comparison to the other stories. Mistress of Redemption
is definitely a keeper, worthy of prime real-estate on my bookshelf.

I loved this tale of love and redemption. However, those with
delicate sensibilities need to be aware that this is not your
mother's romance novel. The prominent BDSM elements and graphic
descriptions are necessary parts of a story that is told in gritty,
yet fascinating detail. As always, Ms. Hill tells a gripping story
that draws forth an honest emotional response. I must also mention
the sex scenes as they are blazing hot and worth rereading many
times. I highly recommend Mistress of Redemption to
anyone looking for a truly fabulous story of love and BDSM.

Jonathan Powell is standing on the side of the highway after
being released from prison. He is waiting on the bus to take him to
a motel so he can get a shower and haircut and decide what he is
going to do with the rest of his life. As he stands there in the
blistering heat a red Mercedes stops in front of him with the most
gorgeous woman he has ever seen driving. He is drawn to her even
though he is determined not to get involved with anyone again.
Mistress Dona has no plans for letting Jonathan refuse her. She is
here on a mission, one of redemption. But can Jonathan be redeemed
or has he become so stained with evil that there is no hope?
Mistress of Redemption is a very intriguing story
that combines the power of love, physical, emotional, and spiritual,
with the necessity for redemption. This is not a story for the faint
of heart. The BDSM is more hard-core than in any of Ms. Hill’s
previous books. I think that what is being done is exciting and
pleasurable, overall, for the parties involved. Jonathan “Nathan”
truly gets what he deserves and more. I love the way Ms. Hill paints
the path of the soul. It is truly unique way to look at the
afterlife. This is also a story of a woman, Nathan’s soul mate
finding the courage to love again and forgive herself for the sins
of her past. However to say much more about either subject will give
away too much. I think that the readers who are up to it will love
the path the book follows. There is a great deal of pain and
suffering in this story. Nathan has done some truly horrible things
and he must pay for those choices. I can say that I didn’t have much
sympathy for him especially with his antics in Holding the
Cards and Natural Law. Ms. Hill does a
wonderful job of explaining the things that have happened in his
life to make him this way. You finally get to see the real person
that Nathan should have been. It is this new person that you develop
sympathy for and come to admire. This is a powerful story that is
going to rock your mind. As in all of Ms. Hill’s stories there is a
good balance of hot, steamy sex will make you squirm and pant with
need. Mistress Dona and Nathan are both very passionate, sexual
people that have a need for long steamy scenes that left me wanting
to find a hot sexy male Dom to satisfy me. As a small side note I
would have loved to be a bird in a tree when he apologizes to Violet
and Mac Nighthorse.
This complex tale deserves a Gold Star Award for several reasons.
First Ms. Hill has taken a character that many of her readers have
come to dislike and made him into a caring and loving individual.
Ms. Hill has shown that the power of love and forgiveness can begin
to overcome the bad things that we have done in our lives. The BDSM
elements of this story, while more hard-core, don’t overpower the
plot and character development. The sex in the book, which is very
much Ms. Hill’s signature style, is never used as a way to fill the
pages. It is richly described and well thought out. The story also
weaves around you, making you believe that you are the one trying to
help this lost and very lonely man back onto the path he should have
always been on. I loved this story and I know that Ms. Hill’s fans
will love it as well.

Warning: Do not be deceived by my “Heat level” rating.
Mistress of Redemption was not written for those only
looking for light drama and sensual love scenes. This novel was
about self-exploration and healing the soul. It was not about sex,
although sex played a part in the telling of the story. All of the
characters appealed to me on so many levels. Jonathan Powell was
definitely a vile man, but poor circumstances molded him. At the
beginning of the novel all his sins were forgotten and Jonathan
became the man I rooted for. Mistress Dona was a hero in her own
right. Not only had she done it all, her job was to see what
everyone else did as well. Mistress Dona handled herself with class.
She was the perfect person to aid Jonathan on his road to
redemption. However, what sealed my devotion to Mistress of
Redemption was Joey W. Hill’s interpretation of Heaven and
Hell. It was brilliant and so is Ms. Hill.

This book takes a thorough look into the psyche of a calculating
sub who finds himself under the control of an unexpected Mistress
who gives him no choice but to bend to her Will and earn the
redemption of his soul. Mistress of Redemption was a
disturbing look into the life of a broken, abused, abandoned, and
lost boy who grew up to be a sick predator of the sexual and mental
type that created chaos and heartbreak for any Mistress unfortunate
enough to entrust him with her heart. Why he acted and reacted as he
did to the situations he was in, how life’s circumstances can so
greatly affect who a person becomes, and why this man put himself
into these positions was explained in a graphic and intense manner.
Mistress of Redemption is the story of two very broken
souls who find salvation, redemption, and their other halves in the
acceptance and forgiveness of one another. Joey W. Hill did a great
job of writing this interesting and disturbing tale. This book
features Jonathan from Natural Law. I recommend paying
close attention as one could be easily confused by the twists and
turns in this intricate plot. Mistress of Redemption
is definitely not a feel-good or romantic story but is, in a twisted
way, a love story.

When I first started hearing about this story, I was skeptical.
Jonathan Powell was not a character to be liked in Natural Law or
Holding the Cards, and I didn’t see much room for redemption. But
this is a book by Joey Hill, and I read everything Joey writes. Her
characters contain such depth and heart. She has a way of reaching
into characters’ soul and laying them bare before the reader. Joey
asks the hard questions of them, teaching the character about
themselves while allowing the reader to join their incredible
journey of discovery.
Since the book had Joey’s name on it, I gave it a shot, and boy,
am I glad I did. This book has a different feel than most of her
stories, yet still retained her very unique storytelling voice. In
this amazing, heart wrenching tale, Joey will take you from the
Gates of Hell to the Garden of Eden, and have you viewing Lucifer in
a very different light.
All I can really say is wow, Joey has done it again with this
brilliant book. Jonathan/Nathan suffers great pain and anguish,
being ripped down to blood and bone, left raw and exposed. Can he
make a true change of heart, become a different man? Can he walk
through the fires of hell and retain any sanity or worth? Can
Mistress Dona’s soul survive her attempt at redeeming him?
No, I’m not going to tell you. Go and read the story to find out.
The book is rated extreme and carries a warning about its “very
gritty and frank journey to Hell…” and “…situation and scenes may be
disturbing to readers.” Don’t let this warning scare you off. I
found Joey’s vision of Hell to be fascinating and the extreme scenes
were appropriate for the storyline. After all, attempting to turn
around a true bad boy is going to take some extreme measures!
If you haven’t read any of Joey’s books before, do yourself a
favor and pick up at least one of her gripping tales, which just may
change your views on BDSM. You can thank me later for steering you
in her direction. *g*

Ms. Hill wrote with Mistress of Redemption another
masterpiece of BDSM romance. The story will keep you captivated from
the first moment onward because you never know that will happen
next.
This reviewer never thought that Jonathan would be hero material,
but Ms. Hill proved her wrong. He truly redeems himself in this
story and shows a completely different side of himself. Dona helps
him to find his real self, but he also helps her a great deal. Ms.
Hill brings some really interesting psychological aspects into the
story, especially in the way how Dona confronts Jonathan with his
past mistakes and brings him on the right path.
The book is not for the faint-hearted, because it’s a very
typical BDSM story. There can be some scenes that some readers might
find disturbing.
Mistress of Redemption is part of the Nature of
Desire series, but it can be read as a stand-alone, although this
reviewer recommends reading Natural Law prior to
Mistress of Redemption, because you get the background
information on why Jonathan needs to redeem himself.
Ms. Hill is definitely an auto-buy author for this reviewer!
Mistress of Redemption is a keeper you don’t want to
miss.

When I learned that Mistress of Redemption by Joey
W. Hill features Jonathan Powell, the evil sub from Natural
Law, I would have sworn that there would be no way that Ms.
Hill could ever make him a hero worthy of his own novel. I could not
have been more wrong. Mistress of Redemption not only
took Nathan on a journey, it took me on one as well. Feeling his
pain with every breath that I took, I found myself scared to turn
the pages. By the book’s end, I was praying and hoping that he would
be redeemed; not only for himself, but for Dona as well.
Mistress of Redemption is rated extreme for a
reason. Not for the faint of heart, it is very tough to read but
also very cleansing. Even with every button I have being pushed, I
could not put Mistress of Redemption down. Ms. Hill’s
ability as a writer to make her readers feel her character’s souls
is evident in Mistress of Redemption but to explain
why would be giving away the story, which I do not want to do. Once
again, Joey W. Hill has penned a novel of worth and her books
continue to find their way to my keeper shelf.

Mistress of Redemption starts off fast and fiery,
in a blazing red Mercedes doing ninety on a deserted road. As the
story unfurls you learn about a man who has selfishly and cruelly
manipulated every woman in his life and how one Domme systematically
strips Nathan of all his defenses. However, Nathan’s defiance is
deeper and stronger than Dona has anticipated. Ms. Hill’s characters
are intense and hard-hitting. Nathan’s distress is tangible as he
struggles to regain the upper hand over Dona, only to be impeded
each and every time. Dona’s turmoil is corporal as she struggles
with suppressing her mounting affection for him, all the while
determined to show Nathan that he can trust a woman, even a Domme.
Mistress of Redemption tastefully addresses many
unfavorable dynamics from childhood abuses to adult indiscretions;
helps develop the story’s bona fide characters. Ingenious and
absorbing, Mistress of Redemption takes jaunts not
expected however, they become very valuable or necessary; pulling me
into the story with the anticipation of more bombshells. As I
continued reading I wondered which way Nathan will go – Purgatory or
Hell – for the realm he’s in there is a huge difference. As D/s sex
goes, it was blistering with tension, and highly stimulating. An
engrossing and imaginative story that held my attention through to
the last page, a must read for lovers of D/s romance.
